Congregation Shir Shalom announces selection of new Cantor, Arlene Frank.

Dear Fellow Congregant(s):

This is a very exciting time at Shir Shalom. I am very pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has approved hiring a new Cantor. After a yearlong search, interviewing over 20 candidates and spending countless hours discussing the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate, the Cantor Search Committee brought their recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees unanimously decided to hire a cantor as dedicated and hardworking as Cantor Sharon Colbert. Her name is Cantor Arlene Frank. She is from Rockland County, New York and has 14 years of experience as a Cantor. She served in many capacities at her Temple including music director, religious school teacher, as well as her duties as a Cantor. Most of all, she is energetic and has a history of becoming part of the Temple community.

I have written many letters to you my fellow congregants. This letter is probably one of the most important letters I have ever written. The Search Committee and the Board of Trustees knew this was a very important hire and finding someone who was the right fit for our congregation was our top priority. We also knew that we had to hire someone who could lead us into the future. Rabbi Alex was an important partner in this decision. After meeting in person on three separate days in different social situations, both Cantor Frank and Rabbi Alex felt very comfortable together.

The Board of Trustees, with the understanding that this congregation deserves stability, not only signed Rabbi Alex to a new 5 year contract, but also decided to sign Cantor Frank to that same 5 year term. As I said, this is the most important letter I have written to you. We have a bright future and we now have the satisfaction of knowing who are clergy will be for the upcoming years.

I know you will all join me in wishing Cantor Sharon the best in her retirement. We now look forward to welcoming Cantor Frank who will be joining Congregation Shir Shalom on July 1st. As always, please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions.
