Dear 8th – 12th Grade Students & Parents,
I am very excited to introduce a new class to our older, older, post B’nai Mitzvah students, called “Experimental Judaism,” where students will be encouraged to take concepts like Shabbat, Kashrut (Dietary Laws), and Teshuvah (Repentance), and put their own spin on them. My goal is to help your children understand the vast resources they have available to them in their Jewish heritage and to give them the tools to be creative and daring in adapting Judaism to their lives.
As part of the study we will be piloting a program for the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregations (JRC) called “My Jewish Lab,” providing a once-a-month mailer to families and individuals interested in getting down and dirty with Jewish ritual. We will be helping to create the boxed mailers for future use by the JRC.
The monthly Sunday program will run from 9 – 11am, and will meet in my office.
A schedule of dates is as follows:
10/22, 11/19, 12/10, 1/21, 2/4, 3/18, and 4/22
The cost per student is $118 and a $5 materials fee
I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
Please complete the Registration Form and Health Form and return to the Congregation Shir Shalom Religious School office along with your check for $123/student ($118 tuition plus $5 book fee) by August 18th. Please call the Religious School office at 633-8877 should you have any questions or concerns.
Rabbi Alex Lazarus-Klein
