Music at Shir Shalom

There have been so many exciting musical events going on at CSS recently. At the onset of the Hanukkah season, December/Kislev, we celebrated with our Hanukkah Extravaganza in fabulous form! As well as Paul Staley and I, Shiru Na Choir was there on hand singing Hanukkah classics, our Junior Choir was on board, debuting their talents (wow!) and creating great Hanukkah musical memories. Our House Band was featured, reveling in Shabbat and Hanukkah music, lighting up the night with great gusto. I truly believe that it was a night to be remembered by all!

A bit later in Kislev, we celebrated the 7th eve of Hanukkah/Shabbat as a community; lighting our menorahs and singing Hanukkah music in a “progressive” (movable) type service where we lit the hanukkiot and ushered in Shabbat and then shifted worship spaces during the chanting of L’cha Dodi, moving from the Social Hall to the Sanctuary. It was “Cantor On The Keyboard” for events in the Social Hall and Paul Staley on organ in the sanctuary for a more traditional Shabbat Hanukkah! It was a lot of Hanukkah fun and another great evening for all. If you missed any of these Hanukkah services, I would like to remind you that they are both archived through Livestream on the CSS website, available for you to enjoy anytime at your leisure. They are both worth checking out if you missed them; I know they will bring a smile to your face.

Hanukkah was full of wondrous events, including Hanukkah sing-a-longs by Rabbi, I and members of the Junior Choir at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore’s children’s section, as well as at The Jewish Group Home. Rabbi and I, with help from Phil Utech, organized our first video, Rabbi’s homespun Hanukkah song-parody, Kislev and December, https://youtu.be/3W6oNuw1Oqw, hot off the presses just in time for the first eve of Hanukkah! It was shared on Facebook, emails and our website. Catch it! Additionally, I recorded a brand new Hanukkah blues tune, You Gotta Make Them from Scratch, http://www.pixstori.com/s/i8 via Pixstori, again circulated on FB, our website and through CSS emails. Hope you enjoyed these! We always appreciate your feedback!

All of us involved in the many music programs at CSS are working feverishly right now on two big events. The first is Shabbat in Liverpool, A Beatles Songbook Shabbat, set for February 10th. You will hear and sing along to some of your favorite and most meaningful Beatles melodies set to our Friday night liturgy. Paul Staley and I, Shiru Na Choir, our House Band and some special guests will be on hand to make this, I am hoping, one of the most memorable Friday eveningworship experiences. As of now, I have 6 or very recognizable tunes arranged for us to share with you.

Plan ahead for Purim! Purim Night Fever, The Disco Megillah, will be on Saturday Night, March 11th. Plan to come in costume, in 70’s Disco style! We hope to see everyone there! More info following shortly.
