Ruth Leah Harris Schechter Collins COLUMBIA
Ruth Leah Harris Schechter Collins, aged 98, died in Columbia, SC on Friday, December 21, 2018. Born in Highland Park, NJ, on September 4, 1920, Ruth was the daughter of the late David Harris and Bessie Hand Harris.
After graduating from high school, Ruth studied nursing and received her R.N. degree. She proudly served as a US Army nurse in India from 1942 to 1945. After the war, she attended Teachers College, Columbia University. She married Victor Schechter in 1948 and had three children but was widowed at 38 years of age. Ruth moved with her children to Western NY, where she met and married her second husband, the late Henry Collins.
Ruth is survived by her children, Sara Ann Schechter-Schoeman (Robert Jesselson) of Columbia, Jonathan Schechter of Ortonville, MI, Lauren Rimon (Avner) of Kibbutz Kfar Blum, Israel; and her devoted friend, Mary Catherine Cordaro of Buffalo, NY. Ruth is also survived by five grand-children, Miriam Schoeman, Dmitri Schoeman, Ilan Rimon, Ayla Rimon, Nurit Rimon; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Harris Selly, and her step-son, Matthew Schechter.
A graveside service will be held 12 o’clock, Sunday, December 23rd, at Whaley Street Cemetery with Rabbi Jonathan Case officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
The family wishes to thank the Palmettos at Parklane, which was Ruth’s home for the last eight months.

Franc N. Stern, 84, of Fairmont, passed away on Monday (Nov. 19, 2018) at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, surrounded by family after a short illness. He was born July 8, 1934 in Weston, a son of the late Jacob Herbert and Clara Schwartz Stern. Franc is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leah Levine Stern.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Mont (Judith) and Michael (Lisa); grandchildren, Lois (Zach) Rosenbloom, Eliot (Sarah) Stern of Buffalo, New York, Jared Stern of Fairmont and Ariel Stern of Fairmont; a brother, N. David Stern (Betty) of Charleston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Abraham in 1960.
Franc owned and operated Mont Levine, Inc. in Fairmont. He spent his life helping others, having been involved in community organizations such as the Fairmont Jaycees and numerous other organizations. He was a founding member of the WVU Alumni Band.
The family requests memorial contributions be made in Franc’s memory to the Stern/Levine Scholarship Fund c/o Fairmont State University Foundation, 1300 Locust Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554. HEITNER, Lorraine APRIL 30, 1928 – JUNE 1, 2018
Lorriane Heitner, 90 of Peabody and formerly of Chelsea and Revere passed peacefully on Friday at Beverly Hospital. She was the beloved wife of William Heitner. Born in Chelsea, MA, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Goldman) Luster. Lorraine worked for a brief time as an accountant.
In addition to her husband William, those left to cherish her memory are her son, Barry Heitner and his wife Connie of East Amherst, NY; her daughter Donna Heitner of Peabody. Grandsons Holden Heitner and his wife Sarah and Connor Heitner. Her sister Lorie Finer and her husband Bernard of Peabody.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 9:00am in Stanetsky Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St, Salem, MA.

LEBERMAN, Ida Zatz of Albany, N.Y. died surrounded by her loving family on April 28, 2018. Born in Brooklyn on September 8, 1925, Ida was the daughter of the late Isadore Zatz and Ethel Graboff Zatz. Ida was a graduate of the Philip Schuyler High School in Albany and was a member of Temple Israel and Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob in Albany.
Ida had been employed in the accounts receivable and purchasing department at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany for 29 years. Ida was predeceased by her loving husband, Solomon Leberman.
Ida was the mother of Elliot (Carol) Leberman of Albany, Sharon (Dr. Michael) Willen of Slingerlands, Jay Leberman of Jerusalem and Aviva Leberman of Jerusalem. She left behind eight cherished grandchildren, Beth (Jason) Levine, Ian (Melanie) Leberman, Dr. Aaron (Alana) Willen, Jessica Willen, Hemi (Moran) Leberman, Hanan (Ariel) Leberman, Boaz Leberman, and Yael Leberman; and great-grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Levine, Sarah and Benjamin Leberman and Kinneret and Oz Leberman. Also survived by her sister, Toby (Tillie) Grant of Albany.
Services were held at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018. Interment followed in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. Shiva is being observed at the home of Sharon and Michael Willen, through Sunday morning, May 6. Shiva hours will be from 1- 4 p.m. and resume at 6 p.m. each evening.
