From the Vice President of Membership
WELCOME TO CONGREGATION SHIR SHALOM
We are excited to meet you and share our wonderful community with you.
Our congregation is a happy and welcoming community of folks who love to schmooze and celebrate Judaism in many different ways.
At Shir Shalom we strive to be many things for many people. Each of us comes to Judaism via our own path. Some members join us for Friday evening and/or Saturday morning services regularly. Some join us as their needs move them. Others join us for special events; High Holy Days, educational opportunities, our famous Purim Spiel or a myriad of other fun, and interesting programs.
Congregation Shir Shalom is affiliated with the Reform and Reconstructing Judaism movements. We are the first merged congregation from both these movements in the United States. We are proud of our diversity in age, family structure, Jewish observance, ethnicity, religious & ethnic heritage, population, household geography and economics. Everyone has a home here.
Meet our amazing clergy team of Rabbi Alex Lazarus Klein and Cantor Arlene Frank. Each have a zest for teaching and learning, along with caring sensitivity. You’ll love Cantor Frank’s voice as she encourages worship through music. Join our Volunteer Choir. Cantor Frank also leads our band, which is a group of musicians who add fun and beauty to our services with their interesting interpretations of melodies.
Religious School at Congregation Shir Shalom, which is a collaborative environment made up of the Reform/Reconstructing/Conservative Judaism students from CSS and other area congregations. The Community Religious School is bold and engaging for our members’ children. The team of teachers and support staff are dedicated to inspiring fun and lifelong love of Judaism to our children.
