- We’re kvelling (proud) to share the news: The Network of Religious Communities (NRC) held its 41st Annual Appreciation Dinner and Joe and Janeen Morris were honored, nominated by Congregation Shir Shalom.Additionally, our very own Rabbi Alex Lazarus-Klein was also honored, nominated by Buffalo Jewish Federation.39 people from across the Western New York religious community were honored for their devotion and hard work to their respective communities and to the WNY community as a wholeJoseph and Janeen Morris are active members of Congregation Shir Shalom. Joe, a retired engineer, has spearheaded the environmental justice committee. He writes a monthly column it the synagogue newsletter and has served as the key organizer for several large Earth Day Celebrations, including an upcoming event that will take place on April 27th. A passionate protector of the earth, he regularly lectures on the effects of climate change. Janeen, a retired librarian, is a frequent attendee at synagogue services and participant in the weekly Talmud class. She is inquisitive, enthusiastic and generous to all things community.Alex Lazarus-Klein is more than a rabbi—he is a champion for justice, a voice of compassion, and a bridge between communities. His leaderships extends far beyond his diverse congregation, touching countless lives with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the greater good. Though he has long been a guiding force within NRC, he has never been honored at an Appreciation Dinner— recognition that is long overdue. It is time to celebrate his profound impact, both within the Jewish community and beyond, as a tireless advocate, leader and unifier.
