Songs of Healing and Hope

Dear Congregants,

Every day, I am proud to be President of Congregation Shir Shalom. But there are times when the word proud doesn’t come close to how I feel. Last night was one of those times.

If you were one of the 300-plus people at the Memorial Concert for Cantor Susan Wehle and the victims of the crash of Flight 3407, you know how truly special it was. The words were eloquent, the music was inspiring, and the evening was one we will remember for a long time.

An event like this takes a lot of work by a lot of people. I want to make sure you know the congregants and temple staff who did so much.
Those who put in so many hours preparing and planning: Julia Cohan, Debra Fine, Cantor Arlene Frank, Tom Lansing, Rabbi Alex Lazarus-Klein, Executive Director Joanne Marquisee, Nancy McGory, Shari Jo Reich, Diane Safir, Lorenzo Stewart and Mindy Weinman.

Those who contributed their talents: Dr. Jennifer Cain, Michael Frank, Max Goldhirsch, Dr. Gunilla Kester, Tom Lansing, Paul Staley, Gloria Tetewsky and Shiru Na.

Special acknowledgments: To Cantor Frank, whose dedication and direction made this evening so memorable; Joanne Marquisee, who made sure no detail was overlooked; and David and Diane Safir and family, who generously sponsored this event.

If you weren’t able to be there or watch the live stream, I hope you’ll watch the replay, (Click Here) so you too can share this powerful and uplifting experience.

There are times a community comes together. Too often, those are times of grief and sadness. Last night, a community came together to keep memories and legacies alive.

I’m so proud we did so at Congregation Shir Shalom.
